Electronic airfreight booking for Air France Cargo-KLM Cargo faster and easier
Riege Software International extends e-booking system for forwarding software
Electronic booking (e-booking) of airfreight shipments directly with airlines provides airfreight forwarders with a fast and reliable way to process their shipments 24 hours a day. Riege Software International has integrated an innovative solution into their forwarding software Procars that meets the specific e-booking demands of the different airlines.
Meerbusch, February 22, 2010 – For airfreight forwarders e-booking has become an indispensable part of their daily business allowing them to book airfreight shipments with the airlines even outside of usual office hours. Therefore the integration of e-booking functions into the forwarders’ processes has become increasingly important. However, the airlines’ diverging data and service requirements pose a challenge.
The requirements for e-booking differ from airline to airline, for example Lufthansa Cargo and Air France Cargo-KLM Cargo. In addition, not all airlines even offer e-booking yet. Therefore it’s important for the forwarder's e-booking system to seamlessly manage the differences during the booking process.
Riege Software International has recently incorporated the product and service requirements of Air France Cargo-KLM Cargo into the forwarding software package Procars. Using the e-booking system ensures the airline complies with the standards and demands set by the airfreight association IATA. The forwarder also benefits since all relevant data for the shipment of the goods as well as the respective booking confirmations are immediately available to the user. Various customers of the logistics software provider are currently using the solution, among them Logwin, DB Schenker, Emotrans and Geis SDV.
“It’s in the interest of our forwarding customers that further airlines offer electronic booking systems in the future. We’ve already established the technical prerequisites for this,” explains Johannes Riege, managing director of the IT provider based in Meerbusch, Germany.
The developers have also integrated an automated booking system for advanced scheduled shipments into the Procars software solution. This transfers the booking data directly to the supporting airline, either by IATA Cargo IMP messages or automatically via fax message. Moreover, an electronic ad hoc booking is possible. The complete integration and electronic data transfer directly from the registration of goods not only reduces errors and streamlines the process, it also reduces disruptions for the user. With the introduction of product and service code tables by Air France Cargo-KLM Cargo, a further major airline is now available for e-booking with Procars.
